Things have been so busy over here, so I have lots of updates for you (and even more to come in a few weeks), but today I just would like to say that it feels SO GOOD to be posting something new. I miss blogging when I’m away from it and I especially miss YOU!
Cleanse update: My no – sugar / low fat / juice until dinner cleanse became an exercise in conscious eating. As I moved through my day to day I realized that the secret to knowing what is good for you to eat comes with being in the present moment. While I know some things are pretty certain with my body (I don’t feel as great with eating even moderate amounts of fat as most others, and I feel really great juicing for breakfast and lunch almost all of the time) there are some things that shift a bit day to day depending on many things.
Lucky for me, Natalia Rose launched her Extremely Green Detox the first of July. The main focus of this cleanse is to eradicate yeast, bacteria, fungus, and mold in the body that is byproduct of accumulated waste in the body (that is the result of the consumption of unfit food/substances). The cleanse is focused on greens (tons of green vegetable juices, sprouts, green salads, and even wheatgrass!), healthy plant based fats, and raw and cooked non starchy vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, raw sweet potato, and olives. For dessert, young Thai coconut meat is the best option, which is delicious blended into puddings and such.
As always with Natalia’s approach, deep sweats, colon cleansing, and meditations are highly emphasized to release the physical and mental blockages that contribute to a “yeasty” condition. Several supplements and yeast eradicating herbs are also recommended. I’ve done this sort of cleanse before, just not at this high a level.
So why am I doing it? Well for one, my weight fluctuates – a LOT since pregnancy more so than ever. This is pretty typical of a body that needs a little bit of a reset. It’s very common for women to have more yeast than ideal after pregnancy, and also to be more estrogen dominant – especially if nursing a baby for longer than 10 months, according to Natalia.
I’ve also had some skin issues come up, overall they are very mild, just my right arm is a bit red and bumpy, and a small patch on my chest. It reminds me very much of when I had eczema in middle school.
The cleanse has been awesome. Natalia always delivers so much value with everything she does, and this has not disappointed at all! I have tons of new recipes in a fantastic new book that Natalia and her team have put together for the cleanse (with plenty of Extremely Green Detox friendly recipes included by yours truly!), the latest in Natalia’s discoveries through her weekly meetings with all of us on Watchitoo, a weekly Q & A phone call with Natalia and her team, as well as access to a private facebook page with about 100 other participants! This group has such a great energy and I’m so happy to be a part of it.
On the other hand, I do sometimes get frustrated with the lack of physical change I see when following this sort of protocol. Like I mentioned previously, I seem to feel and stay heavier when I include a lot of fat in my diet instead of a smaller amount (such as 2 tbsp of tahini or almond butter in a salad dressing, or half of an avocado to a whole avocado instead of an avocado and a half to two avocados …. which makes guacamole salads so creamy and delicious!), and if you exclude generous amounts of fat on a cleanse such as this, that leaves you with little to make a meal satisfying! My main goal with the EGD is to keep my food and eating simple, focus on other things in my life outside of food, and to really appreciate and love my body… really…no matter how perfect or imperfect I perceive it to be.
Another class I’m taking this July is with Amanda Dennis and it is called Revealing Paradise. This just kicked off on Monday, but I unfortunately missed the call due to a raging headache that got worse and worse as the day went on. I had my first chocolate hangover on Monday, but that’s another post for another time! This class is all about finding your voice and sharing it with the world. Mostly, how to do this in a way that is most authentically you. This really spoke to me, as I’ve tried many different ventures as a means to share my voice and spread my message, but I just haven’t found the perfect fit yet. While I definitely like to try things to make sure that they are or aren’t the right fit for me, I also don’t like to waste time! Time has never been more precious (or limited) to me now that I’m a mom. Many of you may know of Amanda’s online show, PeleMa TV, where she interviews experts on all sorts of subjects that enrich your life and will inspire you to fulfill your highest potential. I highly recommend checking her out here.
All in all, this month is JAM packed for me. Again, more on that soon, but this is all I can share for now.
More to come soon!
